Prepare your Pets for Emergencies

Illinois officials are encouraging residents to make emergency plans for their pets as well as themselves this season.

Officials say pet owners should have a three-day supply of food and water, extra supplies of pet medicines, copies of registration and vaccinations, collar and leash, toys and treats ready in case of an emergency and are forced to leave home.

For owners with multiple or large pets, officials suggest developing a plan for their shelter.

In emergencies animals can be separated from their owners so having your pet microchipped is a good idea.

Having a crate to easily transport your animal is helpful as well.
