Tags Not Needed for Dogs in Danville

DANVILLE -- Owning a dog in Danville just a got a little cheaper.

The city did away with a rule that requires dogs to have a registration tag.

Before the county took over animal regulations, owners had to pay seven dollars and fifty cents a year for tags the dogs would wear on it's collar.

This was to help reunite animals if lost but animal control officials say the regulation is going away to streamline processes now the Humane Society of Danville is no longer providing animal control.

It would also cost more to enforce the rule than would be made from the sale of the tags.

All the animals that come to the shelter get microchipped before they are adopted out.

You can still purchase tags for your animals from the Humane Society of Danville if you wish.
