Quinn Requests Delay for Budget Address

Gov. Pat Quinn is asking for more time before he delivers his budget address. Right now, he's expected to give the speech on February 19. But his office confirms he wants to delay the address until March 26.

The governor says the delay is partly for him to prepare a five-year spending blueprint.

The delay would put the speech after the March 18 primary election.

A spokesperson for the governor says 13 of the last 20 budget addresses have been delayed.

The delay would require a tweak in the law for it to happen. House Speaker Michael Madigan said the request will appear as an amendment to pending legislation.
