Farm Bill Deal Reached in Washington

It appears a long-awaited deal for a new farm bill is reached. The measure announced by the House and Senate Agriculture Committee would cut benefits for food stamp recipients by $800 million a year, or 1 percent.

Generous subsidies for farmers will continue, though. The Illinois Farm Bureau said it will likely support the bill.

The House could vote on the proposal as soon as Wednesday.
