Former Illini Player Convicted of Manslaughter

Former Illini standout and Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent has been found guilty of intoxication manslaughter for a fiery wreck that killed his teammate and close friend, Jerry Brown.

Brent showed no reaction as the jury in Dallas rendered its verdict.

The accident happened in December 2012 after a night of partying. The two were headed home when Brent lost control of his Mercedes, which burst into flames.

Officers who arrived on scene said Brent was seen trying to pull Brown's body from the wreckage.

Tests showed Brent's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

The 25-year-old from Bloomington faces up to 20 years in prison, though probation is also possible.
