Coats for Kids Drive a Success
DANVILLE -- The Danville Elks Lodge 332 is doing it's part to help keep the community warm this holiday season as they've raised nearly three hundred coats for the Coats for Kids drive.
The lodge has partnered with area dry cleaners so the coats can be cleaned before they are given to the Salvation Army for those who need them this winter.
The new or gently used coats are collected in barrels throughout Danville then collected and sorted for cleaning.
Organizers say they have collected hundreds of coats despite the late start for the drive this year.
Secretary Jime Beele says, "We have a hundred coats that have been collected, cleaned and delivered to the Salvation Army. Today, we'll be picking up approximately a hundred more coats that are at the cleaners and we'll be depositing these coats to three cleaners for final cleaning."
Now the group is collecting the donation barrels to wrap up the drive but if you would still like to donate you can call 442-0145 to have the coats picked up.
Organizers say they've seen a lot more brand new coats donated in the barrels this year.
