Winter Roads Dangerous

DANVILLE -- Inches of snow accumulated over this weekend and that means drivers will have to get out a little earlier to start cleaning off their cars but it also means keeping a close eye on those roads conditions once you head out.

Authorities say drivers need to slow down and plan ahead for winter road conditions.

A normal stopping distance of 3 to 4 seconds needs to be doubled, even tripled on icy or slushy streets.

When approaching a stop sign or stop light, officials say to look both ways an extra time before starting in case another driver slides through the intersection.

If you do get involved in a fender bender, police say to move to the side of the road, safe from getting hit a second time.

With those snowy, icy road conditions it's always a good idea to give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning before heading out the door so you can arrive at your destination safely.
