Unit 4 Board Approves New Teacher Contract, Details Released

CHAMPAIGN--This new contract is a three year deal. The Champaign Federation of Teachers originally wanted just a one year contract with a number of salary changes.

But now that this thing is all said and done, both the union and the school board are saying they're happy to agree for three years.

For the next three years step increases stick around. Those bump up a teacher's salary based on experience.

In addition to those, there will be a salary increase based on a teacher's base pay.

Here's what reprsentatives of both the union and school board had to say following Monday's contract approval.

"We are so excited to not have to be doing this next year. I think the teachers are going to be excited too, so they can focus on teaching and doing the things they do so well." said board president Laurie Bonnett.

"We are thrilled that we came to an agreement with the district that is fair for, I think both sides is fair for the district and fair for teachers." said CFT president Cathy Mannen.
