Urgent Care Clinic to Open at U of I

Students at the University of Illinois campus may soon have another option for healthcare--right in the heart of Campus Town.

LeRoy-based Dr. Tom Pliura plans to open an urgent care clinic at the corner of Wright and Green streets in Champaign.

Pliura said students who were once uninsured will become insured under the Affordable Care Act. He hopes the clinic will be front and center for those students to use.

"It would be a good idea, because it's right next to the student union, so there's a lot of kids there in case of an emergency," one U of I student said.

"Being here right next to the main quad is a good location, because there's a lot of students," U of I student Peter Iordanob said. "It would be close and easy for people to access."

Pliura said he has also looked at opening clinics on other Illinois campuses. For the Champaign location, he's just waiting on permits from the city before they can begin remodeling work.
