Moms Struggle to Buy Diapers

A Yale study found that 30-percent of moms couldn't afford to buy diapers. For a newborn who uses upwards of 10 diapers a day, the monthly cost is more than $100. We went to the Parent Place to find out if the need locally is as significant. The non-profit child abuse prevention agency is the largest diaper supplier in the Springfield area. The missions tie together because research shows kids with dirty diapers are more likely to be fussy and fussy kids are more likely to be abused. The Parent Place's Executive Director says this is one of those times when demands are greater than donations. A young mom we spoke with said she used sheets and paper towels when she couldn't afford diapers for her now 18-month-old son.
