Virginia Theater Renovations Almost Complete

CHAMPAIGN--Back in 2000 the Champaign Park District took over the Virginia Theater as it was facing demolition.
Now phase 1 of this 5.5 million dollar renovation project is almost complete.

The project was funded through grants, donations and capital and museum funds.
Guests can expect new paint and plaster on the walls along with new seating and light and electrical upgrades.

With less than a month before Eberfest is set to take place, the major renovations will be complete by  the end of this week.

Champaign Park District officials tell us as the project came to a wrap, they made just everything stayed original.

"Our goal has always been to bring it back as best as possible to its original glory when it was opened in 1921 and I think we've captured that particularly in this restoration."

Another 1 million dollars worth of unfunded projects are still being discussed.
Phase two of the park district's master plan will include new digital projectors with new audio and visual equipment.

As all movies are expected to go digital by 2014, park district officials say it's critical to get this new equipment in by next year.

They're still working out a budget for this, which is why they'll continue accepting donations.
