CHAMPAIGN-- Authorities
are investigating what appears to be a natural gas explosion at a vacant home in Champaign. It happened shortly after 10 Tuesday morning on the 500 block of West Beardsley Avenue. Dena Schumacher with the Champaign Fire Department says neighbors smelled gas earlier Tuesday morning and
called Ameren. While an Ameren employee was
checking out the situation at the home it exploded. Thankfully a city of Champaign employee was
driving by the home at the time, and was able to get help for the injured person. The exact cause of the blast is
still under investigation. The Champaign Fire Department
says plans are being worked on to demolish the home.
