CHAMPAIGN--Play ball!
One phrase Champaign's Mayor, Don Gerard, hopes to hear in the future.
Gerard said plans are in the works for bringing a minor league baseball team to the City of Champaign.
Part of the project could be building a brand new baseball field.
Two potential sites could be either the empty lot with the empty building near I-74 and Neil Street, or the Country Fair Shopping Center near Springfield and Mattis Avenue.
Gerard said not only will this bring in some much needed revenue, but could also bring some jobs to the area.
Gerard, a group of business people, and baseball experts will be meeting January 30th to further discuss the potential sites for the baseball field.
