This year's game is in Indianapolis and visitors are booking rooms in Danville. Hotel managers like Matt Groppi at the Days Hotel on Gilbert St. hope they trickle out to Danville.
"The Super Bowl, we're excited about," Groppi said, "We're starting to see some bookings come in moderately but as the date approaches, we'll see more and more activity each and every day."
And the rush would come at just the right time.
"February is usually a slower month," Groppis said, "February and January are slower in county for activities as far as room nights go."
Michael Conley, G.M. at the Sleep Inn on Lynch Road says he's not as optimistic.
"We had high hopes in the beginning," he said, "But once we looked at how many new buildings were opening in the Indy area, it gets a little depressing."
Groppi agrees most fans will stay in or right around Indianapolis. But he points out other travelers might want no part of the city that weekend.
"It's companies and people traveling and families that could not get a room in Indianapolis due to price," he said.
Groppi says he hasn't yet raised prices for the weekend but will if demand picks up. The Sleep Inn and others already have. Now, they can only wait.
"We've got a few bookings on the charts right now," Conley said, "Being that it's just Monday after the (conference title games,) we'll just have to see. I'm hoping by Friday to have a lot better numbers."
In addition to Super Bowl traffic, Danville hotels will also host guests that weekend for the Midwest Classic. It's a show choir competition at Danville High School.
