Employee of Gold's Gym, Taylor Ronk, says, "There's always our usuals that come in but there's definitely been phone calls made and new faces around here now that 2012 is here."
He says after the first of the year they see about a 15 percent increase in membership.
Ronk adds, "There's a lot of people that come in here asking about, you know, our child care or even, you know, rates that we have here."
Traditionally gyms become less busy as the year goes on but at Gold's Gym people seem to be staying strong.
He says, "A lot of people are still in here. There's a lot of people that, you know, still are at it they've signed a membership and still want to come in here and get fit."
Evolve Fitness in Champaign also sees a spike in attendance around this time of year. A Co-Owner says they have over 50 more members so far this month compared to a typical month.
A U of I senior who works out at the Activities and Recreation Center says ultimately it's good if people are going to try and get in shape but the increased traffic can be frustrating.
Emily Lombardo says, "Just more people in general means you don't get the machine you want right away or there's less parking here for example."
