The rate increase will be guaranteed for four years.
The guaranteed four year rate increase is tied to the rate of inflation, so the 4.8 percent increase breaks down to 1.9 percent each year.
On the Urbana-Champaign campus next year in-state tuition for Freshmen will rise by $532 a year to $11, 636.
Trustees hope that by setting tuition in January it will allow families adequate time to figure out their finances and financial aid options.
