the engine company at Station 4 on the city's west side due to budget issues. The fire station as a whole was
never at risk of being shut down, just one of two operating fire
engines. Fire Chief Doug Forsman says members of Champaign Firefighters Local 1260 voted to work 48 hours of furlough time in addition
to making wage concessions, in order to avoid the potential brown out of the
engine. The agreement will keep the
engine company running for 18 months. The City Council will take
formal action on the agreement at its next meeting. City Council member Tom Bruno
says he's confident it will pass unanimously.
