"It's a little bit thicker. Beet juice it's not, so much water as, t's not syrupy. It does adhere to the pavement better."
This is the fifth year the beet juice mixture is being used in Danielle.
The mix, which is half beet juice, is just for bridges.
"They don't have the ground temperature coming up so anything, strong winds or temperature changes can impact the bridges and make them icy first.", Scott said.
The rest of the city's high traffic areas get treated with a brine mix well before the storm hits.
"that gives us a little time before we can get the trucks out there and putting the material down."
Danville Public Works has it down to a science with the beet juice on the bridges and the well planned out routes throughout the city.
And that could bad news for the kids, because clear roads mean no snow day.
"We want to make sure we make the right choice for the safety of the kids... But we also want to make sure we have school if at all possible.", said District 118 Superintendent Mark Denman.
