Saturday, a small group of current and former teachers learned some basic gun and knife defense tactics.
Champaign's Leaders for Life martial arts academy is offering these types of classes to teachers and school districts all over the area for free.
Since the tragic Sandy Hook shooting last month, school districts are contacting the gym to train their entire staff.
Other teachers are coming in on their own.
Instructors say this training isn't meant to make experts out of the teachers, but it gives them a solid starting point.
