The injured seven pound, three foot tall bird was found in Sadorus, Illinois with a wound on his left wing. He was brought to the clinic Tuesday afternoon. Staff have sutured up the eagle's wing, bandaged it, and he is being treated with antibiotics. He is expected to heal in six to eight weeks and be released back into the wild.
Because the bird is so strong staff at the clinic have to take many precautions when handling him.
"It is a stressful environment so we're trying to reduce his stress when we handle him we use gloves. He is incredibly strong for a seven pound bird," said volunteer Alison Bizzul.
The Wildlife Medical Clinic is a non-profit organization run primarily by student volunteers. It relies on fund-raising and donations to care for injured and orhpaned wildlife.
