It was a race against the clock unlike any other we’ve seen locally. Four relay teams from area businesses competed against each other and a marathon runner--- in what’s called a treadmill marathon. It happened right in the middle of the Scheels sporting goods store in Springfield. Two organizations-Children’s Miracle Network and Medals 4 Mettle- were the focus of the treadmill marathon. Medals 4 Mettle collects runners’ medals and donates them to people battling serious illnesses.
"Our recipient today was Brenna Westlake and ugh 10 months old. She's got Harlequin Ichthyosis. It's a severe skin disorder, and the Westlake family ---Courtney and Evan-- have been battling this since her birth," said Scott Dahl with Medals 4 Mettle Central Illinois.
The runners went 26.2 miles; that’s marathon distance. They competed against Trent Sinnett, an Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class and member of the All-Guard Marathon Team.
