But this walk's organizer, Sue Stahl, knows first hand surviving this wide spread disease is something to be cherished.
"I had a friend who died of breast cancer when she was 47, Debbie Wilson, a dear friend of mine and never ever considered it would happen again.", Stahl said.
But cancer doesn't keep track.
It came around a second time, and it found Sue.
That's where early detection came in, leading to her becoming a survivor, instead of a victim.
"I was one of the very fortunate people, I've been cured for over two years. Had surgery and chemo and back to normal and enjoying and celebrating everyday.", said Stahl.
So the walk raised money for a group of survivors.
"It's a breast cancer survivor group and we meet every month, the third Monday of every month at Jocko's just to get together and help each other through the survivorship." said group member Sandy Hart.
The New Horizon Support Group will get 75 percent of the money raised from Saturday's walk, so they can continue their mission of offering a strong support system to women battling the disease not just in Vermilion County, but all over the area.
And helping women realize, finding out early, in most cases means the difference between life or death.
"So that's why we encourage the mammograms and self exams, seeing your physician, and we're here as proof that we're survivors and early detection is key.", Hart said.
