IN THE NEWS: PRE-OPRDERS ON iPHONES
NEW YORK (AP) -- If you haven't already ordered one of those new, bigger iPhones -- chances are you won't get your hands on one right away. Apple plans to start delivering the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to customers starting on Friday. But the company says it has already received more than 4 million advance orders -- more than it had made for starters. Many of the orders that were already placed will be hitting mailboxes throughout September -- but many won't be delivered until next month. The other chance of scoring one will be if you show up at an Apple retail store -- or at various wireless carriers and authorized Apple resellers.
Apple says the 4 million orders set a new 24-hour record for its phone sales, beating the mark set in 2012 for the iPhone 5. The company's Web site had scattered outages Friday because of the heavy traffic generated as orders began online.
IN THE NEWS: SHETAXI
NEW YORK (AP) -- Chances are if you hail a taxi in New York City -- or most major cities -- the hack will be a guy. But a new startup company is trying to change that. The SheTaxi app is aimed at trying to serve women who prefer to have another female behind the wheel when they travel. Fewer than 3 percent of New York City's 115,000 licensed taxi, livery and limo drivers are women. Some women prefer having a female driver because of safety concerns or religious or social mores. The SheTaxi app is being called SheRides in New York City -- and goes live today.
