As many as 12 parties may put up candidates for governor this fall, including the Rent is Too Damn High Party. Jimmy McMillan wants to run again. HONOLULU (AP) -- It's surfers versus paddleboarders in Hawaii. Charges of wave-hogging are now drawing the attention of state officials. At issue are prime surfing spots off beaches on Oahu's south shore. The proposal by the Department of Land and Natural Resources would ban stand-up paddleboards, surf kayaks and the like in designated surf zones from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The surfers' group Safe Surf Hawaii says it's a safety issue. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the surf zone proposal would be a year-long pilot program.
